Our first responders are the lynchpin of safety and security in our community. These individuals have some of the most difficult and dangerous jobs in Florida. We need to make sure they have all of the tools they need to do their jobs effectively and that we keep the promises that we've made to them concerning their retirement and other benefits.
I am a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment. I believe that so-called "gun free zones" are ill-conceived and dangerous. Citizens should have the right to defend themselves. Tallahassee continues to disappoint us in their lack of action on this fundamental issue. I'm a proud member of the National Rifle Association and Florida Carry and look forward to having a positive impact on this issue for the people in my district and our state.
Our woefully outdated Family Court laws in Florida are in desperate need of reform. Children and families are being torn apart everyday by outdated laws and predatory litigating divorce attorneys and their cronies. With your help, we can make meaningful family law reform a reality in Florida in 2019.
Florida's economy will always be heavily dependent upon tourism. Our growth as a state is as much driven in large measure by our wonderful climate and beaches as it is by an excellent business environment. It is in our best interests to safeguard our beaches and waterways to help ensure the continued positive financial impact that clean beaches, rivers, and lakes bring. Our future as a state is more important to me and my family than political contributions from people who are responsible for the current mess in the Everglades, Lake Okeechobee, and along our beaches.
In 1992, 76% of Florida citizens voted to establish term limits for our elected Legislative and Executive branch officials. This Constitutional Amendment has a few glaring loopholes that need to be closed. I will file a bill on my first day in the Florida House to address these term limit loopholes and thereby set in place specific procedures that will ensure the spirit of the law that was so strongly supported by voters is being met. I will also oppose any attempts to weaken this requirement that may be proposed by any elected official who may try to put their own self-interests ahead of the will of the voters of Florida.
I have been involved in various leadership roles within the Tampa Bay community for decades. I have served as the Chairman of my homeowners association, President of the Florida West Coast Employee Benefits Council, and have been a supporter of several local and national charities.
My work in coordinating and flying Hurricane Irma relief supplies down to Fort Myers and Key West made national news. I was proud to do it, and I thank the hundreds of supporters from the Tampa Bay area who donated supplies and money to help our fellow Floridians in their time of need. We are stronger when we all work together as a community.
